Project AWARE was formed as a 501c3 non-profit organization in 2003. For 10 years it provided workshops and programs for teenagers with the mission to “Empower Young People to Lead”. Young people created videos and used other creative mediums to raise awareness about issues affecting them; such as bullying, mental health, substance use, self-harm, and more. Many of the projects can be seen online at the Project AWARE YouTube channel.

Becoming aware was a crucial first step — it also established a responsibility to act. Our long-term goal has always been to create programming that offers healthy opportunities for teenagers and adults who need support. Yoga, massage, meditation and other alternative and eclectic forms of healing are indispensable in providing a foundation for holistic health. Therefore, in order to accomplish our ultimate mission of empowering individuals, we have shifted our focus from raising awareness to providing healthy options and natural highs for young people and adults.

Project AWARE supports individuals in creating and expanding healing arts programs that are offered in their local communities and throughout the country. We support our providers in several ways. First, and most importantly, is with our financial assistance program Help Healing Hands. This program allows our providers to offer individual services on a sliding scale and group workshops by donation. There are two benefits to this program. First, the fund increases accessibility. We want everyone to have access to the programs that will support them in their journey regardless of their financial situation. Second, by increasing the availability of their services, our providers can make full-time careers out of their therapeutic work. They are able to focus on developing their skills and offering services that make a difference in their communities without having to “get a day job” or work in areas that conflict with their values. Project Aware also offers business development support for new providers trying to launch their small business. This includes assistance with essential tasks like setting up an LLC, creating a website, applying for loans and grants, promotional writing and marketing, etc. If you are a provider who wants to work with us, please fill out the questionnaire on the get involved page and we will connect with you.

We believe the actions that come after awareness are what really count. Now that you’re aware, you can help us act. As a non-profit organization, Project Aware seeks funding through sponsorship, individual donations, and grants. Please visit our donation page to support the healing arts.
